Toyota Motors has announced their year-end sales totals for 2011. For the first time ever, the 2011 Toyota Sienna was the best selling minivan in the US. Overall, Toyota is slightly down this year with about a 6% drop over last year, but some divisions are regions are doing well. According to Toyota, the 2011 and 2012 Toyota Sienna has a safety recall stemming from the wrong information being printed on the vehicles placard regarding the tire selection and rims. The information that is cited incorrectly regards “vehicle capacity weight as the rated load for the combination of cargo and occupants.” Toyota has issued a fix for this and will be mailing customers the right placard and will revise the owner manual. JD Power’s recognizes the 2011 Toyota Sienna as the top minivan in the class and gives it the highest ratings for each of their grading categories. Below are the results for the 2011 JD Power’s Vehicle Dependability Study.

I’m a minivan guy. I don’t own one and I don’t want one, but in my prior career I helped design Chrysler’s second-gen minivan, and that exercise involved a whole lot of benchmarking and voice-of-the-customer research.
